FG declares two-day public holiday for Eid al-Fitr celebration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a two-day public holiday to enable citizens, especially Muslim faithful, to celebrate the end of Ramadan and reflect on its core values.

The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Eid al-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the Ramadan fast.

The declaration was conveyed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani. He congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and encouraged them to continue embracing the virtues of peace, compassion, generosity, and tolerance cultivated during the period.

He also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for national unity, peace, and prosperity, while urging everyone to celebrate responsibly and support those in need.

The government reiterated its commitment to promoting harmony and peaceful coexistence across the country.
