The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on suspects linked to the alleged sexual assault incidents in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, with the arrest of eleven additional persons.
In an update on Saturday, the Command said the latest arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, who mandated the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the disturbing reports.
Police operatives, acting on the directive, conducted a detailed review of video evidence and gathered intelligence, which led to the apprehension of the suspects identified as Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, and six others.
The Command noted that the new arrests bring the total number of suspects currently in custody in connection with the incident to fifteen.
According to the police, preliminary findings suggest that the acts were carried out by criminal elements who took advantage of the situation to perpetrate sexual violence, stressing that such actions are not reflective of any legitimate cultural practice.
Condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police also called on members of the public, especially victims and witnesses, to come forward with useful information to support ongoing investigations, assuring that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
