The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing it of being responsible for its internal crisis and dismissing allegations that the ruling party is working to undermine opposition groups.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on April 2, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the ADC as a party plagued by confusion and desperation, alleging that it has resorted to spreading conspiracy theories about the APC’s role in its leadership dispute.
Morka argued that the ADC’s current challenges stem from what he called a violation of the party’s constitutional processes, particularly in relation to the emergence of its leadership under Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola. He claimed their takeover of the party structure disregarded due process and the rule of law.
The APC spokesperson defended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stating that its decision to withdraw recognition of the ADC leadership was lawful and in line with a court ruling. He maintained that the electoral body acted appropriately and within established democratic procedures.
According to him, it is unfair for the ADC to blame the APC for problems that originated within its own ranks. He added that the opposition party’s inability to manage its internal affairs raises concerns about its capacity to govern effectively.
Morka further criticised the ADC for lacking clear policy direction, alleging that its primary focus has been attacking the APC rather than presenting viable alternatives to Nigerians.
Reaffirming the position of the ruling party, he stated that the APC and the administration of President Bola Tinubu remain committed to implementing their agenda and strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
The exchange marks a deepening political dispute between the two parties amid ongoing controversy surrounding the ADC’s leadership and INEC’s role in the matter.
