Four people have lost their lives, while eight others sustained injuries in a road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Christopher University in Ogun State.
The incident was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) through its Ogun State Command spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the FRSC, the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday and involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus carrying 13 passengers—11 men and two women.
Odunsi disclosed that eight victims, including seven men and one woman, were injured, while four male passengers died in the accident.
Preliminary findings indicate that the crash was caused by a tyre burst combined with excessive speed, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
FRSC officials from the Mowe Unit Command responded promptly, rescuing the injured and transporting them to Famobis Hospital for treatment. The deceased were taken to Idera morgue.
Authorities have reiterated the need for drivers to adhere to speed limits and ensure proper vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragedies.
