Some traders in Lagos State have protested against the presence of Chinese traders operating at the ASPAMDA section of the Trade Fair Complex, demanding their exit from the market.
The traders who are mostly Igbo accused the Chinese businessmen of selling goods at significantly cheaper prices, which they said was creating unfair competition and threatening the livelihood of local traders.
The protest reportedly centred on concerns that the Chinese traders have gained an advantage in the market by offering products at prices that local traders find difficult to match.
The aggrieved traders called on the relevant authorities to intervene and address what they described as an uneven trading environment.
They maintained that the continued presence of Chinese traders directly competing with local businessmen could further undermine indigenous businesses and employment opportunities.
The protesters therefore urged the Lagos State Government and other relevant regulatory authorities to investigate the situation and take appropriate action to protect local traders and ensure fair competition at the Trade Fair Complex.
