The Lagos State Police Command, led by Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, has arrested 47 suspects in a renewed crackdown on crime across Lagos.
Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, CP Fatai said the arrests and recoveries were made within two weeks of assuming office, highlighting what he described as significant operational gains.
According to him, the police recovered 14 firearms — including 10 locally made guns and four pump-action rifles — alongside 96 rounds of 5.2mm live ammunition, 29 live cartridges, and one expended cartridge.
Other recovered items include 14 vehicles, two laptops, 29 mobile phones, and a flash drive. The exhibits were linked to cases of armed robbery, cultism, conspiracy, theft, threats, and illegal possession of firearms.
CP Fatai attributed the successes to intelligence-driven policing strategies and stronger collaboration with local communities.
He also noted that security operations during the Easter period were effective, with no major incidents recorded. This, he said, was due to proactive deployment of personnel to key locations such as worship centres, highways, recreational venues, and other public spaces.
Reaffirming the Command’s stance, the CP warned that criminal activities would not be tolerated, adding that all suspects would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
