The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended Comptrollers overseeing commands along the Lagos-Seme border corridor following allegations of extortion involving its personnel.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, ordered the action after receiving reports of misconduct at the border posts. She described the alleged behaviour as unacceptable and a violation of the Service’s core values, ethics, and operational standards.

According to the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the affected Comptrollers have been temporarily relieved of their duties pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation. The probe is aimed at identifying all officers involved and ensuring swift disciplinary action where necessary.

“The CGI has directed a thorough investigation into these incidents to ensure that all those found culpable are held accountable,” Akinlabi stated.
The NIS reassured the public of its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and efficient service delivery across all entry and exit points, stressing that it will not tolerate actions that undermine public trust.

It also urged citizens to report any misconduct through its official communication channels.

The Lagos-Seme corridor, linking Nigeria to Benin Republic, remains one of the busiest and most strategically important border routes in West Africa, handling significant volumes of trade and passenger movement.
