The Lagos State Police Command has debunked reports of a planned cult-related clash in parts of the state, assuring residents that there is no cause for alarm.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said messages circulating about a possible clash in areas such as Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and Ishaga were false and capable of causing unnecessary panic.
According to the statement, the Command had already taken proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order following initial reports of tension in the affected areas. These measures included the swift deployment of police personnel and operational assets across the communities and adjoining locations.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has directed intensified patrols, strategic positioning of officers, and increased visibility of security personnel in identified flashpoints to deter criminal activities and maintain public safety.
“The areas are well secured, and adequate security coverage has been emplaced to deter any unlawful gatherings or activities,” the statement noted.
The Command reassured residents to go about their lawful activities without fear, emphasizing that security agencies remain fully committed to maintaining peace across the state.
Residents were also urged to disregard unverified rumours and rely only on credible information from official sources. The police further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring that all necessary measures would continue to be implemented to ensure lasting peace in Lagos.
