The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized alcoholic beverages worth an estimated ₦300 million packaged in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles below 200 millilitres in Lagos State.
The agency also shut down some distributors involved in the sale of the prohibited products and arrested distributors and retailers during enforcement operations at Ile-Epo Market.
Similar raids were conducted at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin, Ile Epo market in Agbado-Okeodo and Oke-Arin Market on Lagos Island, where NAFDAC officials evacuated several cartons of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below the 200ml threshold.
Investigations by the agency indicated that some distributors and retailers were hoarding the prohibited products amid increased demand and rising prices.
NAFDAC reiterated that the ban on the production, distribution, sale and possession of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml remains in force.
The agency warned distributors, retailers and other operators to desist from dealing in the prohibited products, stressing that violators would face enforcement action.
