A 41-year-old woman, Helen Ugochukwu, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu over alleged conversion and theft of property valued at N14 million.
The defendant, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a two-count charge bordering on conversion and stealing. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the alleged offence was committed on January 19 at about 9:30 a.m. in the Allison Market area of Ikorodu.
He alleged that the defendant obtained 50 inverters valued at N14 million, along with a cash sum of N200,000, from the complainant, Mrs Victoria Owolabi, and subsequently converted them for personal use.
According to the prosecution, the defendant was arrested following police investigations. The offences are said to contravene Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr A.O. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum, adding that the addresses of the sureties must be verified.
The case was adjourned until April 30 for mention.
