Sanwo-Olu with the new Red Line train

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the arrival of a new set of 24-car trains to strengthen operations on the Lagos Red Line, in a move aimed at improving public transportation across the state.

According to the governor, the additional train sets will significantly increase passenger capacity, reduce waiting times, and ease daily commuting for residents.

The Red Line, which serves the busy Agbado–Iju–Agege–Ikeja–Oshodi–Mushin–Yaba–Oyingbo corridor, is expected to see an increase in the number of daily trips as a result of the upgrade. This is projected to enhance mobility, improve livelihoods, and reduce traffic congestion along the route.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated the state government’s commitment to building a transport system that is efficient, reliable, and accessible to all Lagosians, noting that the development aligns with broader efforts to modernise urban mobility.

The Red Line expansion complements the success of the Lagos Blue Line, which operates along the Lagos–Badagry corridor, transporting commuters between Mile 2 and Marina.

With the addition of the new trains, authorities say Lagos is taking another step toward creating an integrated rail network capable of meeting the demands of its growing population.
