Dino Melaye, former senator representing Kogi West, says he is confident of defeating President Bola Tinubu in a free and fair presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on the “Mic On” podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Melaye described Tinubu as the “most unpopular” politician in Nigeria, alleging that the president prefers a “coronation” to a competitive electoral process.

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Melaye argued that any of the party’s presidential aspirants would outperform Tinubu in office.

“Let’s have a free and fair election. Today, Bola Tinubu is the most unpopular politician in Nigeria. I will beat him flat,” he said.

Melaye also insisted that Nigerians would resist any attempt to undermine the electoral process, adding that credible elections must be upheld.

The former lawmaker was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 2023 Kogi governorship election, where he finished third with 46,362 votes, behind Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 446,237 votes, and Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who secured 259,052 votes.
