Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is reportedly set to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Agege Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, stepping down from his earlier governorship ambition.

Obasa had initially positioned himself as a strong contender to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reviving the Mandate Group to strengthen political support across Lagos. However, party dynamics shifted after President Bola Tinubu, alongside the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), backed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the preferred governorship candidate.

Following this decision, Obasa briefly explored a senatorial bid in Lagos West but faced opposition within the APC, particularly from stakeholders advocating the retention of Senator Idiat Adebule for gender representation.

Sources indicate that he has now been advised to pursue a House of Representatives seat instead, specifically for Agege Federal Constituency. He is said to have begun quiet grassroots mobilisation, marking a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
