The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that a potential tragedy was prevented following a truck accident at Daleko Bridge inward Isolo.
According to a statement issued by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Olawale Afolabi, the incident occurred on April 26 and involved a 40-foot container truck and a Toyota Camry. The container reportedly detached from the truck while climbing the bridge due to a mechanical fault linked to a broken turntable, before falling onto the car.
Despite the severity of the accident, all three occupants of the vehicle escaped without injury, and no fatalities were recorded.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigerian Army, quickly secured the area and diverted traffic to prevent further incidents.
Recovery efforts began immediately, with LASEMA deploying a heavy-duty crane alongside a private crane. By early morning on April 27, the container had been repositioned upright. However, due to structural damage to the truck, the container remains unstable and is being held in place while its contents are transferred to another vehicle.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the swift coordination among responding agencies. He also urged truck operators to prioritise vehicle maintenance and advised motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and use alternative routes until full clearance of the bridge.
Residents were further encouraged to report emergencies via the toll-free numbers 767 and 112.
