A tragic incident has been reported in the Ajah area of Lagos State, where a 65-year-old transport manager, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, was allegedly killed by his gateman.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning and has left the victim’s family in deep shock. Nwalieze, who was said to be a manager with Okeyson Transport, was reportedly attacked shortly after making preparations to attend church.
According to a family member who spoke anonymously, the deceased had gone downstairs to the parking area of his residence, where vehicle spare parts and a solar panel were kept. Concern arose when he became unreachable and none of his vehicles had been moved.
Family members reportedly grew worried after repeated phone calls went unanswered and his cars remained parked. Suspicion later shifted to the gateman after he allegedly gave conflicting accounts about the victim’s whereabouts.
The gateman initially claimed that Nwalieze had gone out with a friend, but this was contradicted when the friend denied seeing him. Shortly after, the gateman reportedly fled the premises, prompting a search of the compound.
During the search, the victim’s body was discovered in one of the flats within the building. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
At the time of the incident, the deceased was in the house with his wife, daughter, two domestic staff, and another occupant, all of whom were upstairs.
The case has been reported to the police, who have begun an investigation and are currently searching for the fleeing suspect. The Lagos State Police Command has yet to release an official statement as of the time of this report.
