A suspected cult attack at Abijo Bus Stop in Lagos State has left a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) dead and at least three others injured.
A police source said the incident occurred around 9am on Sunday when two suspected cultists arrived at the bus stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350 and opened fire on the victim.
The attackers reportedly sped away immediately after the shooting.
The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, detectives visited the scene and combed the area in an attempt to apprehend the suspects.
An anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, identified the deceased as Omokoye, popularly known as Zobo. The platform said he was sitting at a spot where local gin, popularly called ogogoro, was being sold when the attackers opened fire.
It added that three other people sustained gunshot injuries during the attack, while others fled the scene.
According to the platform, Zobo had previously worked at Awoyaya Bus Stop before moving to GRA Bus Stop and was the father of an eight-month-old child.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, saying the police had commenced an investigation.
The killing comes weeks after a mechanic identified as Samson was allegedly lured to a location in the community under the guise of repairing a Mercedes-Benz. He was reportedly taken into a bush and hacked to death.
