The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, has appointed the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, into the Civilian Oversight Board of the newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU).

The appointment was conveyed through an official letter signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, DCP Khan Salihu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, the appointment forms part of ongoing reform initiatives introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at improving professionalism, transparency, accountability and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

The Command stated that Dr. Ogunsan’s inclusion in the board is expected to enhance community participation, strategic engagement and civilian oversight in the operations of the newly created anti-violent crime unit across Lagos State.

The police described Dr. Ogunsan as a respected security advocate whose experience and long-standing contributions to public safety initiatives make him a valuable addition to the oversight board.

Part of the appointment letter noted that his expertise in security management would contribute significantly to accountability, improved police-community relations and effective oversight of the unit’s activities.

Dr. Ogunsan has played major roles in supporting security architecture in Lagos over the years. He currently serves as a Patron of the Lagos State Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and previously chaired the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), where he championed youth engagement, crime prevention and community policing initiatives.

Under his leadership, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund has continued to provide operational support, logistics and strategic interventions to security agencies, contributing to crime-fighting efforts and public safety across the state.
