Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Surulere constituency 1, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, following a disagreement over the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos.
In a video circulating on social media, Elliot was seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila while pleading for forgiveness and seeking to mend ties with the APC leadership in Lagos.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” Elliot said.
The apology came months after a dispute between Elliot and APC leaders over the party’s primary for the Surulere Constituency I seat.
Elliot had participated in the primary but later withdrew, alleging intimidation and political pressure against his supporters. He subsequently rejected the outcome and indicated that he would challenge the process through the party’s internal appeal mechanism.
Barakat Odunuga-Bakare eventually won the primary with 11,385 votes, while Elliot polled 270 votes and emerged as the party’s candidate for the constituency.
The latest development appears to signal Elliot’s effort to reconcile with Gbajabiamila and rebuild his relationship with the APC leadership in Lagos.
Elliot has represented Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly and is a former member of the Lagos State chapter of the APC.
