A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the murder of his former employer, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel.
The couple were killed at their residence in the Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja, on April 1, 2024.
Police investigations led to Marcus’ arrest in Obajana, Kogi State, where he had fled after the incident. During interrogation, he confessed to entering the victims’ home around 11 p.m. on the night of the attack and killing the couple.
Investigators also found that Marcus had previously worked as the couple’s driver but was dismissed following repeated disagreements with them.
After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, Justice M. S. Idris held that the case had been proved beyond reasonable doubt. The court subsequently convicted Marcus and sentenced him to death by hanging.
Reacting to the judgment, the FCT Police Command said the conviction underscores its commitment to ensuring that offenders are brought to justice and reassured residents of its resolve to continue protecting lives and property.
