Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has directed members of the armed forces and other security agencies to immediately engage and neutralise terrorists and bandits without waiting for further orders.

Speaking on Wednesday during the inauguration of 62 armoured vehicles and 320 motorcycles procured by the Sokoto State Government for security operations, Musa said any security personnel who hesitate to act against armed criminals would be treated as collaborators.

The security assets, valued at about ₦27.7 billion, are expected to strengthen operations against banditry and other security threats across the state.

“I want to reiterate this to all members of the armed forces and security forces. Once you are deployed, do not wait for any order from anybody to shoot any bandit or terrorist,” Musa said.

“Anybody who refuses to shoot or kill any bandit or terrorist because he is waiting for an order will be treated like a bandit.

“The Federal Government, the state government, local governments, and indeed Nigerian taxpayers have invested heavily in these assets so that you can eliminate anyone threatening the peace and security of our nation. It is your responsibility to take them down before they take you down.”

The minister also urged personnel entrusted with the newly acquired equipment to ensure proper maintenance, stressing that the assets represent a significant public investment.

He warned against negligence and misuse, noting that the condition of the equipment would be reviewed after one year to ensure they remain operational.

Musa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and security across the country, assuring Nigerians that efforts to combat terrorism and banditry would continue with renewed determination.
