The Lagos State Government says it is making significant investments in waste management infrastructure to improve waste collection, disposal and overall service delivery across the state.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Friday during an appearance on TVC News Breakfast, where he outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental sanitation. He later shared details of the initiatives on his X account.
According to Wahab, the investments include the rehabilitation of key operational facilities, construction of new Transfer Loading Stations and expansion of waste disposal infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency and improve waste management services.
He stressed, however, that government investment alone would not achieve a cleaner Lagos without the active support of residents and businesses.
Wahab urged households and businesses to patronise their designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators, pay for waste collection services promptly and dispose of refuse responsibly.
He said sustainable environmental management requires collaboration among government, PSP operators and residents.
The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos through strategic investments, innovation, stronger partnerships and continuous improvements in waste management systems.
He also thanked TVC News for providing a platform to engage residents on waste management challenges and the ongoing reforms in the sector.
