Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted several consignments of illicit drugs, including cocaine and cannabis, in separate operations across Lagos and Ondo states.
The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
According to Babafemi, NDLEA officers at a courier company in Lagos thwarted an attempt to export 1.2 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in 25 phone chargers to Saudi Arabia.
In a separate operation at another logistics company in Lagos on Monday, August 3, officers intercepted 500 grammes of cocaine hidden in the false bottom of a backpack and allegedly destined for Italy.
The agency also intercepted 2.3 kilogrammes of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, at another shipping company in Lagos on Tuesday, August 4. The consignment was reportedly shipped from the United States.
In Ondo State, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Akure-Ilesha Expressway intercepted a truck heading north with 1,633 kilogrammes of skunk concealed in bags of rice shafts on August 4.
Two suspects, 40-year-old Buba Jamilu and 30-year-old Sanusi Ibrahim, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
Babafemi added that 147 kilogrammes of skunk was recovered from Ita-Ogbolu Forest during a raid on August 3.
He further disclosed that NDLEA officers, working with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies, discovered 73 cartons containing 442 packets of cannabis-infused cookies and gummies weighing 309.4 kilogrammes during a joint examination of a 40-foot container at the TinCan Port Complex, Lagos, on August 4.
A suspect, Larry Nnaji, has been arrested in connection with the seizure.
Commending the officers for the successful operations, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), urged them and their colleagues nationwide to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control efforts.
