Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to stop him from entering Osun State as voters head to the polls for Saturday’s governorship election.
In a post on his verified X account early Saturday, the singer said he had been “reliably informed” that soldiers were trying to prevent him from entering the state, insisting that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement.
Davido’s claim came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun from midnight on Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday as part of security arrangements for the election.
The police said the restriction was intended to support a peaceful and orderly poll, with thousands of police officers and other security personnel deployed across the state.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has openly supported his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party. The governor is seeking a second term against opponents including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The singer’s post quickly generated reactions online, with some users attributing any possible restriction to the general election-day movement ban, while others questioned whether he was being specifically targeted.
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed Davido’s claim as “dramatic,” arguing that the movement restriction had been publicly announced and was a standard security measure during elections.
Ahmad maintained that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt anyone from complying with lawful security measures introduced to protect the electoral process.
