Lagos State Governor and Visitor to Lagos State University (LASU), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has awarded N20 million each to the overall best graduating students of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Lawal Olawale, a Project Management graduate who emerged best graduating student for 2024/2025 with a CGPA of 4.96, and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, an Aerospace Engineering graduate who topped the 2025/2026 session with a CGPA of 4.97. Both graduated with First Class Honours.
Sanwo-Olu announced the rewards on Wednesday during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo.
A total of 20,604 students graduated across the two academic sessions, described by the governor as the largest graduating cohort in the university’s history. They included 494 First Class graduates and 3,383 postgraduate students, among them 238 PhD graduates.
The governor congratulated the graduates, their parents, guardians, sponsors and lecturers, while urging the students to use their knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to society.
He also highlighted LASU’s recent academic achievements, noting that the university has been the most subscribed university in Nigeria for two consecutive years, with more than 84,000 prospective students choosing it as their first choice.
Sanwo-Olu further disclosed that LASU had been selected as the sole South-West host of the N3 billion TETFund Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences.
He said his administration remained committed to education and technology under its THEMES+ agenda, citing investments in tertiary education and the establishment of the Lagos State University of Education and Lagos State University of Science and Technology.
“Go, and be the proof,” Sanwo-Olu told the graduates, charging them to distinguish themselves through competence, character and courage.
