President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the governor presented his certificate of return.
Adeleke arrived at the State House at about 5:20 p.m. and proceeded to Tinubu’s office for the closed-door meeting, shortly after receiving his certificate from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke was re-elected in the August 15 governorship election on the platform of the Accord, polling 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
He won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, defeating 14 other candidates, including Oyebamiji and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Tinubu had earlier congratulated Adeleke on his victory, describing the result as an affirmation of the people’s confidence in him and urging him to unite the people of Osun State for development and progress.
However, the APC has rejected the election result. Oluwole Oke, director-general of the party’s governorship campaign committee, said the party would not rush to congratulate Adeleke, insisting that its candidate did not lose the election based on the valid votes cast.
