The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has cleared Bolt to resume operations at airports managed by the authority, following public concerns over the temporary disruption of e-hailing services.
In a statement on Thursday, FAAN said it reached an agreement with Bolt after discussions aimed at establishing an acceptable operational framework for e-hailing services at the airports.
The authority said the arrangement would allow it to maintain airport security and order while preserving passengers’ access to convenient transportation options.
FAAN apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and increased transportation costs experienced during the disruption, saying its actions were driven by regulatory, safety and security considerations.
It added that discussions with other e-hailing operators were ongoing and expressed confidence that agreements would be reached in the coming days.
FAAN said it had been working for nearly a decade to address challenges associated with commercial and e-hailing vehicles at airports, including passenger solicitation, touting, unregulated operations and random pick-ups.
The authority also clarified that its Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS) is not an e-hailing platform and was not created to compete with Uber, Bolt or other mobility companies.
FAAN said ACHRAMS was designed only to manage airport car-hire ranks and authorised operations, stressing that it supports healthy competition and does not seek to create a monopoly in airport transportation.
The authority further explained that the airport taxi fares recently discussed publicly were not newly imposed by FAAN or introduced through ACHRAMS. Rather, the system provides greater visibility of existing airport taxi rates.
FAAN assured travellers that their safety, security, convenience and overall airport experience remain central to its decisions.
