The Lagos State Government has made the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) registration number mandatory for the enrolment of learners in all public and private schools across the state from the 2026/2027 academic session.
Under the directive, schools are required to obtain and record each learner’s valid LASRRA registration number as part of the admission and enrolment process from Monday, September 14, 2026.
The directive, approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, is being implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).
Alli-Balogun said the policy was aimed at creating a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in Lagos to improve planning, monitoring and service delivery in the education sector.
He said capturing learners on the LASRRA database would strengthen record-keeping, improve identification and verification, facilitate learner tracking and provide government agencies with credible data for evidence-based decision-making.
Schools have consequently been directed to include learners’ LASRRA registration numbers in their admission and school records, while sensitising parents and guardians about the new requirement.
Schools are also expected to advise parents whose children or wards are not yet registered with LASRRA to complete the registration process ahead of the new academic session.
The government, however, directed schools to ensure that learners’ personal information is handled confidentially and securely in line with applicable data-protection standards.
The Director-General of OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said the agency would collaborate with LASRRA and other relevant agencies to develop modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.
He added that sensitisation, registration and verification support would be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners.
Ogunmuyiwa said compliance with the directive would also form part of OEQA’s monitoring and quality-assurance activities across public and private schools in the state.
He urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that all children, wards and learners are registered with LASRRA before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session, stressing that the requirement is mandatory.
