The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the January 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections, with 18 political parties fielding presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
The list, signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, shows that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is presenting President Bola Tinubu, 74, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima, 59, as his running mate.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is fielding former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, 79, alongside former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, 61.
Peter Obi, 65, is the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, 69, as his running mate.
Other candidates on the list include Sunday Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party (LP), Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The Commission also listed Rufai Omo-Aje of the Action Alliance (AA), Aliyu Abbas-Bin of the Allied Peoples Movement (ADP), Kabiru Yusuf of the Allied Peoples Party (APP), Oluseyi Makinde of the Advanced Peoples Movement (APM), Sunday Adenuga of the BP, Moses Adebisi of the DLA, Ada Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nkem Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Peter Agada of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Daniel Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
According to the list, none of the 18 presidential candidates or their running mates declared a disability.
Two women — Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the NDP and Nkem Esther Okereke of the NRM — are contesting the presidency, while four women are listed as vice-presidential candidates.
The candidates’ ages range from 35 to 80, while their educational qualifications vary from First School Leaving Certificate, WAEC and NABTEB to university degrees, including doctorate qualifications.
