The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion on Independence Bridge as the Federal Ministry of Works begins urgent repairs on the bridge from Friday, October 16, to Sunday, October 18, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government said asphalt works would commence on Friday night and continue throughout Saturday and Sunday, with completion scheduled for Sunday.
The traffic management plan provides for the partial closure of sections of the bridge at a time, while at least one lane will remain open to allow motorists to access their destinations.
The government urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead of the repairs and consider alternative routes to minimise delays.
It added that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage traffic and reduce inconvenience to road users.
Motorists were also advised to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the repair period.
