A 40-foot truck has rammed into two passenger-laden commercial buses on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Ojodu Berger, prompting an emergency response and causing heavy traffic congestion.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said in a report on Tuesday that the truck reportedly lost control and crashed into the buses near the Berger Pedestrian Bridge on the carriageway leading towards Mowe.

The number of casualties and the severity of injuries had yet to be confirmed as of the time of the report. LASTMA, however, said victims had been taken to an emergency unit for medical attention.

Police officers and traffic management personnel were at the scene to assist with emergency operations and control traffic.

The crash caused a major traffic backlog extending towards Otedola, disrupting movement along the busy Lagos-Ogun corridor.

The incident comes amid recurring concerns over accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles on Lagos highways.

Earlier in October, a truck conveying a fully loaded 40-foot container was involved in a crash at First Gate, inward Mile 2, leaving four people critically injured. LASTMA attributed that incident to suspected brake failure, while the driver was reportedly apprehended for investigation.

In September, another multiple-vehicle crash involving three trucks and other vehicles occurred near Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in injuries and traffic disruption.

Motorists heading towards Berger and Mowe were advised to expect delays while emergency responders worked at the scene.

Further details on the casualties and the cause of Tuesday’s crash were still being awaited.
