African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and Atiku Abubakar supporter Dele Momodu, has predicted that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), will defeat President Bola Tinubu in the South-East and parts of the South-South in the 2027 presidential election.

Momodu made the prediction on Wednesday during an interview on Arise News’ Prime Time programme, describing Obi as a highly popular figure in the two geopolitical zones.

“Peter Obi is a rock star where he comes from, especially in the South-East and the South-South,” he said.

He warned that Obi’s popularity could pose a serious challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that the president would need strong support across all three southern geopolitical zones to secure victory.

According to Momodu, Tinubu would also have to work harder to secure votes in the North, where he benefited from the backing of former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2023 election.

“The scenario is different this time. Peter Obi will humiliate Tinubu and all his supporters in the South-East and some parts of the South-South,” he said.

“And that’s dangerous for Tinubu, because for Tinubu to win, he needs to lock down all the three regions in the South.”

Despite his assessment of Obi’s electoral strength, Momodu said he remained a supporter of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Obi Will Also Defeat Soludo, Momodu Says

Momodu also predicted that Obi would defeat and embarrass Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the 2027 presidential election.

Soludo, who belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has declared support for Tinubu and was subsequently named a member of the APC presidential campaign council.

“I can bet my life on it that Peter Obi will humiliate and disgrace Soludo in Anambra State. I have no question about that,” Momodu said.

The governor has recently criticised Obi’s record during his tenure as Anambra governor, alleging that his administration left behind debts and unpaid salaries.

Obi, however, has maintained that he cleared the state’s debts before leaving office in 2014.
