Lagos State plans to open three additional stations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line by the end of February 2027, expanding the network from five to eight stations.
The Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, announced this at the 2026 Media Parley organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
The new stations — FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair — will extend rail services to more residents along the corridor, providing commuters with improved access to mass transit and an alternative to road transportation.
Akinajo said the stations were expected to open in the first quarter of 2027, bringing rail services closer to communities along the FESTAC–Alakija–Trade Fair axis.
The Blue Line currently operates five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba and Mile 2. The addition of the three stations will increase the network’s reach and strengthen connectivity across parts of Lagos.
Beyond the rail expansion, Akinajo disclosed that four Quality Bus Corridors (QBCs) were nearing completion, while construction work on the Marina and Mile 2 Interchange Hubs had recorded considerable progress.
The projects form part of the state government’s plan to integrate rail, bus and interchange facilities, making connections between different modes of public transportation more convenient for commuters.
When completed, the additional stations and supporting infrastructure are expected to improve access to public transport and support Lagos State’s efforts to develop a more efficient and sustainable urban mobility system.
