Suspected robber dies after mob attack in Lagos

A suspected armed robber died in a hospital after being rescued from a mob attack in Lagos.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Akerele Junction in the Agege area of the state.

According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, the suspect was apprehended by an angry mob while attempting to snatch a mobile phone from a commuter.

The mob beat the suspect to a stupor, and police teams were deployed to the scene. However, the mob fled upon sighting the officers. The suspect, who sustained severe injuries, was rushed to the hospital for treatment but later died.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and his accomplices, who are currently at large, allegedly stabbed a middle-aged woman and dispossessed her of her phone. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang and those involved in the act of jungle justice.

The deceased’s body has been moved to a public morgue by the Lagos State Health and Monitoring Unit.
