Lagos hit-and-run leaves teenager with head, leg injuries

A teenage boy has been hospitalised after he was knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the Onipanu Bus Rapid Transit corridor inward Fadeyi, Lagos State.

The incident occurred at about 4:30pm on Wednesday, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the LASEMA Cobra Team arrived at the scene at 4:32pm and found the teenager with head and leg injuries.

The team administered immediate assistance before transporting him to the Trauma Centre for further medical treatment.

The driver involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene.

Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists to avoid speeding and reckless driving and advised pedestrians to use pedestrian bridges and designated crossing points.

Earlier the same day, the Cobra Team responded to another crash involving a HOWO truck and a Toyota Camry opposite the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Onipanu, inward Fadeyi.

The crash occurred at about 5:10am and involved a HOWO truck with registration number T-36016LA and a black Toyota Camry marked FST-970KS.

Preliminary findings attributed the crash to reckless driving and speeding by the truck driver.

LASEMA officials, working with the police and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, diverted traffic and recovered the vehicles to prevent further accidents.

The Camry was towed to the Onipanu Police Station, while the truck was driven there. No life was lost in the crash, and the road was later cleared and reopened to traffic.

The LASEMA boss commended the emergency responders, police and LASTMA officials for their swift intervention.
