A Lagos resident, Peter Dike, has confessed to killing his 38-year-old wife at their apartment in the Oke Ira Ilogbo Eremi community, Morogbo, Lagos State.
Dike and his yet-to-be-identified wife were said to be at home when an argument that degenerated into a fight ensued between them.
During the fight, Dike went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and allegedly used it to stab sensitive parts of his wife’s body.
Due to the impact of the attack, it was gathered that the 38-year-old victim, while writhing in pain, succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the fight with her husband at their residence on Wednesday.
A source in the area, who spoke on the development, said Dike did not abscond after perpetrating the crime, adding that he sat close to his wife, whose lifeless remains were found in a pool of blood after the police were alerted to the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the case on Thursday.
He also noted that the suspect had been arrested and the remains of the victim evacuated and deposited in a morgue.
Hundeyin said, “The case is confirmed. After a team of detectives who were on surveillance township monitoring patrol in the area got the information, they moved in swiftly and arrested the suspect. One kitchen knife stained with blood was recovered from him.
“He confessed to the crime. The corpse was deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Badagry. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba.”
