The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed reports claiming the introduction of new N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes.

According to the CBN, the circulating report is fake and did not originate from the bank.

The report, which had been shared on WhatsApp, quoted a Deputy CBN Governor, Ibrahim Tahir Jr, stating that the new banknotes would help reduce cash-handling costs and provide more efficient means of conducting large transactions.

However, the CBN’s communications department revealed that there is no deputy governor by that name.

The CBN has assured the public that it is investigating the source of the fake content and reminded everyone that its official website: cbn.gov.ng is the right place to get verified information.

The bank urged people to disregard the false report and rely only on verified information from credible sources.
