The United States showcased its premium wine products in Lagos, through a wine tasting event organized by the Foreign Agricultural Service in collaboration with the California Wine Institute.
The event brought together 18 California wineries and Nigerian businesses, including wine importers and top restaurateurs.
California Wines Take Center Stage
Over 160 award-winning California wines were featured at the event, highlighting California’s reputation as one of the world’s top wine producers. Acting U.S. Consul General JoEllen Gorg emphasized the potential for mutually beneficial trade between the United States and Nigeria.
Growing Demand for U.S. Wines in Nigeria
Nigeria has emerged as the largest African market for U.S. wines, with exports reaching $7.8 million in 2024, representing a 65% increase from the previous year. This growth underscores the increasing demand for U.S. wines in the Nigerian market.
Expanding Trade Opportunities
The wine tasting event aimed to connect California wineries with Nigerian businesses, fostering trade opportunities between the two countries. With Nigeria’s wine market valued at over $300 million annually and growing steadily, the potential for further collaboration and expansion is significant.
