The Lagos State Police Command has clarified the circumstances surrounding the remand of 18-year-old Alabi Quadri, known for standing in front of Peter Obi’s convoy during the 2023 presidential election.
According to the police, Quadri was arrested and charged to court for his alleged involvement in a violent street fight in Amukoko, Lagos, earlier this year.
Incident Details
The police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that on January 22, a group of youths clashed in a violent street fight, causing panic, injuries, and damage to public and private properties.
The police launched an investigation, gathering evidence and witness statements, which led to Quadri’s arrest and arraignment.
Police Action
Hundeyin emphasized that the police followed due process, and the court ordered Quadri’s remand pending the conclusion of legal proceedings.
The police command reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice.
Case Update
However, Alabi Quadri was later freed by a Magistrate Court in Apapa after the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions found no evidence to support the armed robbery charge.
His lawyer claimed Quadri was framed up by local thugs and had been receiving threats since 2023.
