In a bid to improve access to life-saving healthcare for vulnerable children, Orunsii Welcare Foundation, in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday donated funds to three general hospitals in Lagos to support paediatric surgical care.

The donations were made to General Hospital, Odan, Randle General Hospital, Surulere, and Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, as part of the 2025 Paediatric Surgical Care Initiative.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Olumide Sojinrin, Project Coordinator of Orunsii and Medical Director of Randle General Hospital, explained that the donation is intended to support children from low-income families who cannot afford surgical procedures.

“Since we started this foundation, we’ve worked to support communities in various ways. One major gap we noticed was that some parents struggle to pay for their children’s surgery. This initiative is our response to that need,” he said.

Dr. Sojinrin emphasized that the intervention is not a one-time effort but part of the foundation’s long-term mission. Established in 2021, Orunsii Welcare Foundation focuses on mental health, elderly care, environmental health, and support for children needing paediatric surgery.

He also expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her consistent support and advocacy.

“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Sanwo-Olu for her unwavering commitment to children’s welfare and for supporting this initiative that brings hope and healing,” he added.

In her remarks, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu praised the foundation for its dedication to the most vulnerable and reaffirmed her office’s commitment to collaborative efforts that improve healthcare access.

“The partnership between my office and Orunsii is built on shared values — compassion, care, and the belief that every child deserves a chance at a healthy life,” she said.

“Through this initiative, we are delivering real impact to children at General Hospital Odan, and also in Alimosho and Surulere. We must continue to champion a compassionate healthcare system,” she added.

At General Hospital, Odan, Dr. Aduke Mofe, represented by Deputy Medical Director Dr. Akinyele Akinlade, applauded the gesture, assuring that the funds would be used judiciously to support deserving patients.

Similarly, Dr. Ayodapo Soyinka, Medical Director of Alimosho General Hospital, noted that the donation would significantly reduce the burden on families who often cannot afford the cost of surgeries for their children.

“Having this kind of support is a major relief and will allow many children to receive critical surgeries that can transform their lives,” he said.

The initiative marks another milestone in the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring that no child is denied surgery due to financial constraints, and underscores the Lagos State Government’s broader vision of inclusive healthcare for all.
