The Lagos State Police Command has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral video showing a large number of young men reportedly arriving en masse in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos. The footage, which quickly circulated across social media platforms, sparked widespread speculation and concern among residents.

In an official statement released on May 15, 2025, the Command confirmed that the men — a total of 89 individuals — had recently arrived from Katsina State. Following immediate deployment of officers to the scene, preliminary investigations established that the group had been recruited to work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery located in Lekki.

A contractor affiliated with the refinery voluntarily appeared before the police and verified that he had arranged for the transportation of the labourers. His account was fully supported by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the refinery, who affirmed that the workers had been cleared for entry into the facility and would reside within its premises.

According to the police, all 89 individuals were searched thoroughly, and no incriminating items were found. Each man presented valid identification, including National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were subsequently verified.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified or misleading content that could incite panic or social unrest. He reiterated the Command’s dedication to public safety and assured residents of Lagos that law enforcement remains vigilant and responsive to security concerns.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, issued the statement on behalf of the Commissioner, emphasizing the need for calm and accurate information dissemination in the interest of public order.
