The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of 23-year-old Faith Ajoke Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, Victoria Island.
Alayande was reportedly found dead within the hostel premises on Friday, August 7, 2026, after an apparent suicide from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building.
The police said a suicide note believed to have been written by the deceased was discovered by her hostel mate and a relative, who had reportedly begun searching for her before she was found.
The incident was reported to the Victoria Island Police Division by the hostel’s Chief Matron at about 6:30 a.m. Police officers subsequently visited the scene and evacuated Alayande’s remains to a morgue for preservation.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
Meanwhile, Uchenna Marvin, who said he supervised Alayande during her university years, described her death as heartbreaking.
Marvin recalled that Alayande had previously engaged in discussions about the right to life and the right to die while working on her research in Medical Law.
Alayande had graduated from university before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School earlier this year.
