The Lagos State Taskforce has apprehended 277 individuals during a week-long coordinated operation targeting criminal hotspots across the state.
The operation, driven by intelligence reports and numerous complaints from residents, was led by the Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele. It focused on areas notorious for illegal activities and makeshift settlements, aiming to restore public order and reclaim occupied public spaces.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the raids began daily at approximately 1:30 a.m., covering strategic locations on both the Island and Mainland. These included Victoria Island, Osborne Road, the Chevron axis, Lekki Roundabouts, Obalende, Ikota, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, the Law School vicinity, Eko Hotel, Oniru Beach, as well as railway tracks in Agege, Isale Oja in Ketu, and the AP Roundabout.
“These individuals have been causing disruptions and posing a threat to the safety of responsible citizens,” Akerele stated. “With this exercise, we haven’t just restored peace; we’ve sent a clear message that Lagos will not be a haven for lawlessness.”
He emphasized that all 277 suspects have been prosecuted in accordance with the state’s laws and reiterated the Taskforce’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and public environments.
“Anyone intending to destabilize the safety and peace of our neighborhoods must stop now or be ready to face the consequences,” Akerele warned. “We remain resolute in our mission to deliver a safer, cleaner Lagos.”
