One adult male has been confirmed dead, and several others remain trapped following the collapse of a building under construction in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, via an official statement.
“Following distress alerts received at approximately 2:02 p.m., LASEMA activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa and Alausa,” the statement read.
“Upon arrival at 2:40 p.m., responders discovered that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, with three victims trapped beneath the rubble.”
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that one adult male was found dead at the scene. While nine adult males were successfully rescued and treated by the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit, three individuals are still believed to be trapped.
The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.
He added that the affected area has been cordoned off and safety measures activated to secure the site as rescue efforts continued.
