Governor Hails Late Monarch’s Legacy of Service to Epe and Lagos State
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the 19th Olu of Epe, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, who died on Saturday at the age of 86.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the late monarch’s death as a monumental loss to the Epe Kingdom and the traditional institution in Lagos State.
The Governor noted that Oba Adewale’s contributions to the development of Epe and his years of service in the Lagos State Civil Service would remain a lasting legacy.
“On behalf of the government and people of Lagos, I commiserate with the people of the ancient city of Epe, the traditional council, and the deceased’s family, friends and political associates on the transition of the 19th Olu of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, who joined his ancestors on Saturday,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The Governor highlighted the monarch’s distinguished civil service career, noting that he rose to the position of Director of Administration in the Ministry of Education and also served as Executive Secretary in the Ministry of Lands before ascending the royal throne.
“Oba Balogun made lots of positive impact during his lifetime, contributing meaningfully to the Lagos State Civil Service, as well as the growth and development of Epe Kingdom and the traditional institution in Lagos State,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu called on the family, friends, associates, and the entire Epe community to work towards immortalising the revered monarch, whose tireless service benefited generations.
“I pray that Almighty God be pleased with the soul of the late monarch and grant the royal family and the people of Epe Kingdom the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” the Governor said.
Oba Adewale was known for his wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to the peace and progress of his people. His passing marks the end of an era in the Epe Kingdom.
