The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six members of a notorious gang wanted for multiple crimes across the metropolis. The arrests were made during a routine patrol on May 29, and yielded a cache of arms, ammunition, and a suspected stolen vehicle.
According to a statement issued by the Command, the suspects — identified as Yakubu Oke (48), Teslim Balogun (33), Emmanuel Osas (33), Joseph Abah (34), Idris Adewunmi (32), and Opeyemi Kolawole (28) — were intercepted by officers during the patrol. Their inability to provide credible explanations about their movements and identities aroused suspicion, prompting a search.
The search led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 live cartridges, and an unregistered 1999 Toyota Camry, which is believed to have been stolen.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal gang already on the police watchlist. The gang is believed to have operated in several locations across Lagos, engaging in armed robbery and other criminal activities.
Police say the suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and have already provided valuable information that could lead to the arrest of other accomplices and the dismantling of their network.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
“The safety and security of Lagosians remain our top priority. We will not relent until all criminal elements are flushed out,” CP Jimoh said. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
This arrest marks another step in the Command’s broader strategy to curb crime and restore confidence in public safety across Lagos.
