The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 suspected miscreants believed to be responsible for a series of assaults, harassment, and thefts targeting residents and shop owners in the Mushin area of the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the teenage suspects—aged between 14 and 16—were apprehended on Monday during coordinated operations across Ishaga, Awolowo, and Ojuwoye areas of Mushin.

“The command appreciates the feedback and concerns raised by members of the community regarding the recent incidents of daylight assaults, harassment, and theft,” Hundeyin stated. “These reports have prompted a thorough review of our operational tactics and strategies.”

He further revealed that additional police operatives had been deployed to Mushin to curb the rising criminal activities and ensure the swift apprehension of culprits.

In response to the situation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has dispatched more tactical squads, including personnel from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) and other conventional units, to reinforce security in Mushin and surrounding areas.

According to the police, normalcy has been restored, and residents are urged to go about their daily activities without fear. CP Jimoh has also directed the Area Commander covering Mushin to hold strategic meetings with the chairmen of the two local government areas in the district. These discussions aim to strengthen security measures and ensure the protection of lives and property.

Raids on known criminal hideouts, black spots, and slums where gang members are believed to operate will continue, Hundeyin added, emphasizing the command’s commitment to ridding the area of criminal elements.

The arrested suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the inquiry.

Hundeyin assured residents that the safety of Lagosians remains the top priority of the command. He also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, assuring them of a swift and decisive response.
