A 52-year-old man, Morufudeen Idowu, has been sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting an official of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) at Ojota on Friday.
Idowu was arrested after attacking the officer who cautioned him against crossing the Ojota Expressway—an act that contravenes Lagos State’s pedestrian safety regulations.
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the incident in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“Following the arrest of Mr. Morufudeen Idowu, who assaulted one of our personnel and resisted lawful arrest while crossing the expressway at Ojota, he was arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting at Oshodi and sentenced to three months imprisonment,” Wahab stated.
The government has repeatedly warned pedestrians against endangering lives by crossing expressways instead of using pedestrian bridges.
