A major tragedy was averted on Monday after a two-storey building under construction collapsed at No. 3 Craig Street, off Apata Road in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m., according to eyewitnesses. Fortunately, no lives were lost and no injuries were reported, as construction workers and worshippers at a nearby church managed to escape unharmed.

The building’s falling pillars partially struck the adjacent Liberty Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), but worshippers inside the church emerged unscathed.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident and said the collapse happened during the decking phase of the building’s construction.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that no one was trapped beneath the rubble,” he said, adding that the site has since been cordoned off for safety and further investigation.
