The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested the Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Muibi Folawiyo, over allegations of large-scale corruption, diversion of public funds, and abuse of office.

The arrest, carried out at the council secretariat located at 42 Broad Street, Lagos, was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare.

According to the commission, Folawiyo was taken into custody after repeatedly ignoring multiple invitations for questioning, despite acknowledging receipt of them.

“He is currently in our custody. He was arrested by a team from the ICPC headquarters for the aforementioned offences but has since been granted administrative bail. He is expected to report back today as investigations continue,” Bakare said.

The anti-graft agency accuses the council chairman of misappropriating public funds, diverting government resources for personal gain, and violating official protocols—actions that constitute a serious breach of public trust.

The arrest has triggered concern among residents and political stakeholders in Lagos, particularly with the state’s local government elections set for July 12. There are growing calls for increased transparency and accountability in the conduct of public officials.

As investigations progress, the ICPC has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the case to its logical conclusion and ensuring that corrupt practices are thoroughly addressed at all tiers of government.
