President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Falcons of Nigeria on their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title following a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in Saturday night’s final in Rabat.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the Falcons for their “spectacular performance and resilience,” highlighting the win as a testament to the enduring Nigerian spirit.
“The Super Falcons’ spectacular performance tonight in Rabat, coming from behind to beat a spirited Moroccan side playing in front of a passionate home crowd, exemplifies the determination that defines the Nigerian spirit,” Tinubu said.
“With hard work, dedication, and tenacity, you have achieved the mission the nation dreamed of and prayed for. The nation looks forward to welcoming our champions. Congratulations! Nigeria celebrates you,” he added.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime after goals from Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy, the Super Falcons launched a remarkable second-half resurgence. Esther Okoronkwo and Florence Ijamilusi pulled Nigeria level before Jennifer Echegini netted the winning goal in the 88th minute, sealing an emotional and hard-fought victory for coach Justine Madugu’s side.
With the win, Nigeria cements its dominance as the most successful team in WAFCON history — the only nation to lift the trophy 10 times.
